Summer in Scandinavia… Summer is winding down, the days are starting to get a little shorter, but we still revel in the summer light and warmth before the long nights of winter set in. Spending time on the water, enjoying these last warm weekends with friends out at the cabin, and crayfish parties all signify that August is here! Our ‘August Name Day’ litter consists of 3 sweet Tortoiseshell girls.

Name Days in Scandinavia date back to the Middle Ages. In Norway, two names are chosen for each day of the year: around 125 names were used from the old Norwegian Almanac (from the original Danish), about 100 names were chosen from the Swedish Almanac, and certain names were chosen from historical and important people in Norway. The rest of the names were chosen for their popular use. In modern tradition, celebrating Name Days are a way to preserve folk tradition and heritage.
