‘IMMIGRANT LITTER 1: Ole Rølvaag’s Giants in the Earth‘
Giants in the Earth (Norwegian: I De Dage) is a historical novel by the Norwegian-American author, Ole Rølvaag. It was first published in Norwegian as two books in 1924 and 1925; the English-language version was later published in 1927.
The novel portrays the life and struggles of a Norwegian immigrant family who have settled in the Dakota Territory on the American prairie. As they toil with the land and the elements, the psychological impact of homesickness, desolation and the difficulty of fitting into a new culture become front and center in this classic immigrant novel.
This litter is named after the main characters whose story unfolds in Giants in the Earth.
